A Prayers & Squares Thank You

Dear Ladies of Prayers & Squares and Spirit of Joy Church,

My name is Don A. I recently received a Prayer Quilt requested by my sister and her husband.

The Quilt is a reflection of love & the power of prayer conveyed by all ladies of Prayers & Squares, and those who have tied a prayer knot. Your creation of this beautiful quilt, along with the special prayers, will be cherished always. From the heart comes a Special Thank You for your prayers and the special touch of each hand making the Quilt to comfort me. Thank You and God Bless You.

Don A.

The Spirit of Joy Prayers & Squares Ministry was able to send 14 prayer quilts to Haiti earthquake survivors, carrying your prayers for healing and recovery for those in need. Thank you for your caring outreach.

The Prayer Quilt

The answer to prayer is a powerful thing.
No one can know
what the answer will bring.
Where will one be, or when will it come?
How will it touch someone,
or even where from?
A Prayer Quilt can be such a humbling gift,
Bring comfort and healing,
from sadness, a lift.
Great memories flow
when its prayer knots are touched,
Of how prayer can heal one.
It matters so much!
So this Prayer Quilt we give you,
with prayers sent above,
And its prayer knots all tied
as a symbol of love!

Spirit of Joy is home to Chapter 115 of Prayers & Squares, a non-profit world-wide prayer ministry started right here in San Diego County in 1992. We meet every Tuesday at 9:00 A.M. to create pocket squares, lap squares, and lap quilts for those who need prayer for any reason. Embroidery floss ties hold the quilts together.

The idea behind these quilts is simple, yet powerful. A heavy thread is used to take stitches through the quilt layers, and the ends are left free to be tied with a square knot.

As each knot is tied, a silent prayer is offered for someone in special need - someone who has asked us to pray for them. The quilt is then given to that person. What makes each quilt so special is not the pattern, color or workmanship, but the fact that prayer is symbolically tied into each one. These comforters are a statement of faith, and a testimony to our belief in God and in the power of prayer.

Each Sunday, the newest quilts are displayed and blessed during Worship service. Following the service, our members also pray for the recipient and tie knots. We also encourage friends, family, doctors, and others to keep tying and praying after the quilt reaches the recipient.

We have three principles that guide our ministry:

1) The Prayers and Squares motto is, "It’s not about the quilt, it’s all about the prayers."  The purpose of our ministry is to:

* promote an active prayer life within our fellowship, and to

* bring the power of prayer to bear on the needs of each recipient.

2) Before we prepare a quilt for any recipient, we always ask them if they would like to receive our gift of prayer, and what specifically their prayer needs are.

3) We never accept any form of payment for our quilts, although we do depend on contributions from our members and others to support the ministry.

You may request a Prayer Quilt for a family member, friend, neighbor, or anyone else you know who needs prayer.
To obtain a prayer quilt you must submit a request form:
