Preparing to Serve

The Open Door Ministry serves a hot, nutritious meal every Monday evening starting at 6:00 p.m. at the Grange, located on 7th Avenue just north of Main Street.

This should be a simple, balanced meal consisting of a meat dish, a fruit or vegetable, a starch and a dessert should be prepared and delivered to the Grange building at 5:45.

There is no stove, oven, or available electrical outlets in the Grange kitchen so food should be delivered hot and in insulated containers (for instance, a hot crock pot, roasting oven, or wrap disposable pans of hot meat or vegetable dish in a washable blanket).
Other items necessary to serve the meal should also be brought to the Grange. These include:

Eating Utensils

  • Plastic eating utensils (forks, knives, spoons) wrapped in a napkin
  • Disposable plates/bowls (large dinner plates, dessert plates, soup bowls, etc)
  • 6-8 oz cold cups and 1/3 the number of hot cups

Serving Utensils

  • All necessary serving spoons/ forks, bowls, pans, dishes required to serve the meal you prepare.
  • Three to four large pitchers to serve beverages to guests at their tables.
  • Two insulated carafes to serve coffee to guests at their table.

Leftover Consolidation

  • Leftovers will be consolidated for delivery to a worthy cause. Several disposable or inexpensive containers should be provided for this, such as 6-9 disposable aluminum 9X11” baking sheets with plastic covers.

  • They have 2 large drink dispensers at the Grange. Bring enough ice for each container and one gallon of concentrated fruit punch (mix ratio 5:1) at 5:30 and prepare one container of ice water and one of iced punch.

  • Two to four large trash bags to line trash cans. At the end, the sponsoring group must haul off these filled trash bags.

Items provided by the Open Door Leadership Team

  • Coffee (Two 10-pot coffee makers)
  • Salt & Pepper dispensers
  • Cleaning supplies (rags to wipe down plastic table clothes, brooms and dust pans).

On Tuesday or Wednesday of the week prior the meal the sponsoring group should call the organizer to obtain a count of the number of meals to prepare:

“I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.””
