Photo 1: Joan and Scott Brown, Karen Dietmeyer, and Dianne Jackmann, along with husband Craig, joined the combined choirs of Mission San Diego de Alcala and St. Michael’s church in Poway to sing at 4 different venues in Ireland.
Photo 2: The ecumenical choral experience began by singing the Mass at the Basilica of Knock, where people come from all around the globe to visit Ireland’s National Marian Shrine.
Photo 3: Next the group sang for the evening Mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Killarney. The evening Mass in memory of Monsignor Tom Prendergast at the Church of the Assumption was a special moment. Many members of the Mission choir had personally known Msgr. Prendergast – he served the Diocese of San Diego for 59 years, and he was Pastor of Mission San Diego de Alcala for the past 13 of those years.
Photo 4: The highlight of the trip was an hour long recital at St. Patrick’s (Church of Ireland Cathedral in Dublin). The Gothic cathedral, built in 1213 is the largest in Ireland. The pipe organ there was played by Handel for a performance of his Messiah. All were blessed to sing together and make new friends in Christ.
Join the fun! Tickets are $11.50 for Upper Field Level seats. Last year seats were very good, under cover along the first base line. A sign up sheet will be available; tickets must be paid for in advance. If you are interested in singing The Star Spangled Banner before the game, please see Joan Brown for music and details. ALL ARE WELCOME!
God bless us and keep us while we are absent one from another during these summer days.
Joan Brown, Director of Music
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.”
