Sunday Christmas Music Tour de Force
2014 Christmas Festival Choir

Tour de force: (noun) An impressive performance or achievement that has been accomplished or managed with great skill. Example: Sunday morning's Festival Choir musical performance was a tour de force. Thank you, Joan Brown and all those who worked hard to make this participatory music festival so special.
The Mission Vista High School choir Christmas Concert on Sunday evening was also a tour de force. Bryce Harrison, our contemporary worship leader 2nd service, conducted a brilliant performance before a packed audience. Congratulations to Bryce and to his 60 or so hard-working choir members for this outstanding show.
Indeed, Sunday was a wonderful and worshipful prologue to our celebration of Jesus' birth.

 FOURTH SUNDAY - STAR CANDLE
Light four candles as the family says together: Jesus said, "I am the light of the world, he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of Life."
A child asks: Why do we light four candles?
A parent responds: The first candle is a reminder of the light of hope of the prophets. The second candle is a symbol of the light and warmth Joseph and Mary found in the stable. The third candle reminds us of the great light and joy which surrounded the shepherds at the announcement of Jesus' birth. The fourth candle reminds us of the light of the stars in the sky which guided the Wise men to Jesus and which keep watch over us at night.
Read the story of the birth of Jesus as Matthew wrote it: Matthew 1:18 - 2:12
Sing or listen to We Three Kings
We three kings of Orient are; bearing gifts we traverse afar.
Field and fountain, moor and mountain, following yonder star.
O star of wonder, star of night, star with royal beauty bright.
Westward leading, still proceeding, guide us to thy perfect light.
Pray: O God, when we think of Christmas we think of love and lights and gifts and happy times. But, most of all, we think of Jesus, born in a manger and grown up as a loving savior. Help us to live the way Jesus teaches us so that we may show the real meaning of Christmas. Amen

CHRISTMAS EVE
Light four candles and a special “Christ Candle” as the family says together:
"Jesus said, 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.' " (John 8:12)
Read the Christmas message from Luke: Luke 2:1-20
Read:
CHRISTMAS IS A DAY: Yesterday, today, tomorrow… in the year of our Lord.
CHRISTMAS IS A GIFT: God’s gift to the world:  His Son. Man’s gift to his neighbor: acceptance and understanding.
CHRISTMAS IS A PARADOX:  Love in a world of indifference. Peace in a world of war Living Water and the Bread of Life in a thirsty and hungry world.
CHRISTMAS IS CELEBRATING with a great feast… what about faith? with buying, wrapping, sending gifts… what about the GIFT? With songs of good cheer and Christmas spirit… what about the Spirit of Christ?
BUT MOSTLY CHRISTMAS IS……
“To you is born a Savior.”
“God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself.”
And His name shall be called Emmanuel… God with us.”
“The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.”
“God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son.”
Sing Silent Night
Silent night, holy night, All is calm, all is bright
Round yon Virgin Mother and Child
Holy Infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace, Sleep in heavenly peace
Silent night, holy night! Shepherds quake at the sight.
     Glories stream from heaven afar,
     Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia!
Christ, the Savior is born, Christ, the Savior is born
Silent night, holy night, Son of God, love's pure light.
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth, Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth
Sing or listen to Hark the Herald Angels
Sing or listen to O Come, All Ye Faithful
Sing Joy to the World
     Joy to the world, the Lord is come! Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room,
And heaven and nature sing, And heaven and nature sing,
And heaven, and heaven, and nature sing.
     Joy to the world, the Savior reigns! Let men their songs employ;
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy, Repeat the sounding joy,
     Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy.
     No more let sins and sorrows grow, Nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found, Far as the curse is found,
Far as, far as, the curse is found.
He rules the world with truth and grace,
     And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness, And wonders of His love,
     And wonders of His love,
And wonders, and wonders, of His love.
