The Spirit of Joy at Work
Spirit of Joy Passes the Peace
One of our favorite times each Sunday is when Pastor Dan invites us to greet one another as we pass the Peace. Have you ever stopped to think about what a blessed time this is within the Body of Christ that is Spirit of Joy? Ask the average SOJ member why they are here and they'll probably tell you that our good-natured, easy friendliness made them feel welcome and drew them right in. It is indeed a sight to behold: Click here view a brief video of this remarkable time in the life of our church.
Can we think that this special time somehow reveals one of those fruits of the Spirit mentioned in Galatians 5:22-23: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, and self control?
If so, imagine how God might use this Spirit of Joy as we move into our new church home at Ramona's Gateway. As people are drawn to visit this new church in town... out of curiosity or genuine seeking... God stands ready to use us to greet and welcome and draw them in with His own Spirit of Joy.
Pray that this will be so... and that we will also be vessels of all of the Fruits of the Spirit.
Today is Ash Wednesday

Today is Ash Wednesday. This is a day of repentance and it marks the beginning of Lent. Please join us in worship tonight at 7:00 PM as we prayerfully enter this time of Lent which concludes when we celebrate the glorious resurrection of Christ on Easter on April 5.

Ashes were used in ancient times, according to the Bible, to express mourning. Dusting oneself with ashes was the penitent's way of expressing sorrow for sins and faults. An ancient example of one expressing one's penitence is found in Job 42:3-6. Job says to God: "“I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you;  therefore I despise myself, and repent in dust and ashes.” " (vv. 5-6, ESV) Other examples are found in several other books of the Bible including, Numbers 19:9, 19:17, Jonah 3:6, Matthew 11:21, and Luke 10:13, and Hebrews 9:13. Ezekiel 9 also speaks of a linen-clad messenger marking the forehead of the city inhabitants that have sorrow over the sins of the people.

You Can Help!

You can make an important contribution to our church mission by praying for and contributing to these needs:

  • We have two altar flower arrangements every Sunday which can be sponsored in honor or memory or celebration of someone or something special in your life. Please contribute $25 for one or $45 for both.
  • All year long we are grateful for your donations of paper goods and related items for the kitchen & bathrooms at the church, including paper towels, tissues, toilet paper, paper plates, coffee cups, drinking cups, plastic utensils, even coffee. You can save your receipt and turn it in to the office to receive credit on your annual statement of giving for tax purposes.
  • Prayer list changes can be written on the copy from your bulletin and placed in the offering plate (we update the list every week).

Thank you for helping!

Please join us on this journey together through Lent as we remember Christ's passion and prepare to celebrate His victory on Easter Sunday.  On five Wednesdays we will share a pot-luck Soup Supper, followed by a special Lenten Devotion.
