The Easter Story
The Easter Story retells Jesus’ suffering, death, resurrection, and exaltation to the right hand of the Father. The narrative, by Ken Bible, is thoroughly, deeply scriptural, providing not only the detail but also the context. It helps us relive the events that unfolded in Jerusalem two thousand years ago, but it also places them in the flow of God’s dramatic, eternal story of redemption. In the process it engages our mind, heart, and imagination with a story that is simple, yet profound.
Inspired by this narrative, composers Tom Fettke and Thomas Grassi have drawn upon equally simple, yet profound folk music sources, including hymns from The Sacred Harp and The Columbian Harmony, spirituals, carols, and songs from English, Irish, and Hebrew traditions.
We encourage you to invite all you meet to join us for this special, musical presentation.
Good Friday
On Friday, April 3 we also encourage you to attend our Good Friday service at 7:00 PM.
Thursday choir, spring Festival Choir, a vocal Quintet, congregational singing, and piano will all be included to enrich this Tenebrae service. The purpose of the Tenebrae (Latin for shadows) service is to recreate the emotional aspects of the passion story. You will be moved by this unique service of candlelight and darkness, which centers around the last words spoken by Jesus as He hung on the cross.

Prayer Vigil

If prayer wasn’t important, do you think Jesus would have spent so much time in prayer? In fact the passion of Christ tells us how he prayed, asking God first to spare Him the coming execution; then He obviously listens to God... and agrees to His will. Too often prayer is our last resort. But as we embark on building our new church home, let's make prayer our first resort, as it was for Christ.
From 6pm Friday, March 20 through 6pm Saturday March 21st, Spirit of Joy will invest 24 hours in prayer during our Prayer Vigil. During each hour we'll have one or more praying and we'll also have one facilitator to ensure that the facility is secure, that prayer resources are available, the water is hot and the tea handy, and more. Please sign up to prayer and/or facilitate on the kiosk, or send me an email at micknamy@gmail.com and let me know what time you’d be willing to pray.
Spending an hour with God, without distractions, allowing yourself to listen to that “still small voice of calm” will surely lead you in your decisions as they relate to the church and to the many intercessions we have as a church. This may not always be easy. But it’s rewarding, and it's a time that will stay with you. Please consider being part of this prayer vigil.

Upcoming Campaign Events

VISION AWARENESS HOME MEETINGS
We are ending the first week of our Vision Awareness meetings in which we're sharing the good news about Spirit of Joy's Glorious Unfolding at home meetings throughout Ramona. These small and friendly gatherings will help you understand the goals and opportunities presented by our stewardship campaign. You'll receive answers to all of your questions. You'll discuss with friends and neighbors what a new church facility will mean for your family, for Spirit of Joy, and for God's work in Ramona. And you'll join others in prayer that we accomplish God's will and purposes through our efforts in this campaign.

It's not too late to attend! If you haven't yet signed up for one of these meetings, we'll call you to schedule. Or save us a call and reserve your space by sending email to visionawareness@sojchurch.com with the meeting date you want.

March 20-21:

Prayer Vigil
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 Andthe peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:6-7ESV).
For 24 hours, from 6:30pm Friday, 3/20 through 6:30pm Saturday, 3/21 we will have a full day of concerted prayer in which we hope everyone will participate. Our prayers will focus on thanksgiving, praise, adoration, and listening for guidance. We'll be listening to God's perfect plan and asking guidance for our church. The power of prayer is great, through which all things are possible. You'll have a chance to sign up for one or more hours or half-hours at times of your convenience. If you're unable to sign up in advance, please to drop in at any time... we'd love to have you join us.
