What does Fall mean for music at Spirit of Joy?
2014 Christmas Choir

Just as the fall season affords a weather change (however slight in Southern California), our church lessons at this time of year afford opportunity for stylistic changes in our hymns.

Throughout November our hymns and special music emphasize that we can trust God to provide for us.  We acknowledge the majesty, the power, and the love of God in our music as we offer all that we are and all that we have to the Lord.  We “close out” the church year Thanksgiving Eve, joyfully singing out our thanks to God for all He has provided.

The last Sunday in November we “open” a new church year with the Advent season, and our music becomes more reflective.  We sing melodies and lyrics that cause us to ponder anew the anticipated celebration of the birth of our Savior.  We open our hearts to the wonder of God incarnate and allow Christ to enter in, to change us, and to empower us to share the wonder with others.

I appreciate this season.  I sense God’s presence as the wind picks up, the leaves change, and the angle of the earth varies.  I look forward to Festival Choir rehearsals as we prepare for Christmas.  I hope your journey this fall season will be a little more special because of the music you will experience.

Harvest Dinner Nov 8

Celebrate with us at our annual Fall Harvest Dinner on Sunday November 8 at 5:00 pm.

We'll celebrate in worship. We'll share a complete Thanksgiving meal (prepared by Spirits of Grace) and served by our Youth. We'll review our life and ministry together. We'll hear a special report on our progress toward our new building.

Plan for the whole family to be a part of this great day at Spirit of Joy. And to ensure we prepare enough food... please sign up on the kiosk.

This will be both a thoughtful, productive AND a gala night. Don't miss it.
