Valentine's Bake Sale

Purchase your Valentine's Day Treats on Sunday, February 14 between services. Cakes, brownies, cupcakes, cookies, fudge, Rice Krispy Treats, and even some surprises. Proceeds benefit the new church kitchen... which is now only months away.

Please help out by baking and/or buying. Ask anyone if Spirits of Grace for more information, or contact Spirits of Grace president Patty Payne.

During Lent the women's Bible study will meet on the second TUESDAY since soup suppers are on Wednesday. This is reflected on the list of Weekly Activities below.

Update on Church Cleanup

Nittie Hickman reports that we're off to a good start with signups for Church Cleanup, with several families and teams stepping forward to help keep our Church sparkling team. For the time being, each team is signed up for a month of cleaning, and we're covered now through April. That leaves May-December available if you have not yet volunteered.

  • January – Hickman &  Runzel.  And thanks to R.E. and Charlotte for helping.
  • February – The Donnelly family
  • March –  The Zook family
  • April –  The Dimmit family.

Nittie also reports that if there are 2 people cleaning it generally only takes a couple of hours.  Please email Nittie at or call her at 760-703-3300 to volunteer.

Ash Wednesday Services

Ash Wednesday Services will be held here at Spirit of Joy on Wednesday, February 10, 7:00 P.M.  Please join us in worship as we prayerfully enter into the season of Lent.

Ash Wednesday is a day of repentance and it marks the beginning of Lent.

Ashes were used in ancient times, according to the Bible, to express mourning. Dusting oneself with ashes was the penitent's way of expressing sorrow for sins and faults. An ancient example of one expressing one's penitence is found in Job 42:3-6. Job says to God: "“I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you;  therefore I despise myself, and repent in dust and ashes.” " (vv. 5-6, ESV) Other examples are found in several other books of the Bible including, Numbers 19:9,19:17, Jonah 3:6, Matthew 11:21, and Luke 10:13, and Hebrews 9:13. Ezekiel 9 also speaks of a linen-clad messenger marking the forehead of the city inhabitants that have sorrow over the sins of the people. All those without the mark are destroyed.

Lenten Devotions & Soup Suppers

Please join us on this journey together through Lent as we remember Christ's passion and prepare to celebrate His victory on Easter Sunday.  On five Wednesdays we will share a pot-luck Soup Supper, followed by a special Lenten Devotion.

Dates:  February 17, 24;  March 2, 9, 16
Time:    6:15 P.M., followed by Lenten Devotions
