Did you notice the new slogan on our banner image above?

Until today, the slogan was, "Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain." This line from Psalm 127:1 speaks volumes about the challenges we face as we prepare to move. But it begs the question, How do we ensure that we are doing God's work in building our new church home?

Both Jesus' Sermon on the Mount and the book of James teach that the normal Christian life is revealed by our love for one another and for our neighbors. And this is always evident in the myriad ways that we care for the needs and concerns of our family, friends, neighbors and strangers. The Greek word used here is "agape" love, characterized by action. This kind of love is not a flabby emotion but instead is the stuff which can change the world.

Agape love spills out of our overflowing cups through our inward and upward growth as we become mature disciples of Jesus. Read Paul's advice to the Ephesians (chapter 5:15-21): "Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time... understand what the will of the Lord is... Be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ."

When we pursue this inward spiritual growth, God prepares us for His mission as we move into our new church home. Therefore, our new banner tag line, "Inward Growth, Outward Mission" is the way we prepare to move into a new era of ministry and thus seek to ensure that the Lord is indeed building His house at Highway 67 and Highland Valley Road.

We begin our journey toward Inward Growth and Outward Mission the week of Rally Day, August 28. To help us on our journey we'll be using resources from Right Now Media. So for the first few weeks, Pastor Dan's sermons and homegroup discussions will center around their "Anatomy of a Disciple" materials.

Right Now Media has been described as a Netflix for Christians. It's a large library of resources for families, children, personal and small group study and growth, entertainment, and more. And the best part is that Spirit of Joy has purchased a subscription that gives you your own personal login account free of charge..  All you have to do is click here, set up your own login account, and begin browsing and watching.

This means that you won't miss out on anything if you miss a Sunday or a home group meeting. You can go to Right Now Media to view and review the material that was covered during the week. For instance, once you have your own account you can click here to view their "Anatomy of a Disciple" video, or log in and search for "Anatomy of a Disciple".

Rally Day

Rally Day is Sunday, August 28. This day-long celebration of the beginning of a new school year is filled with events: Sunday School Registration both worship services; pancake breakfast between services; youth BBQ in the afternoon, followed by our annual Pine Wood Derby. Mere Christianity

Men's Saturday Bible Study begins September 3, 6:30-8:00 as we read and discuss C.S. Lewis' masterpiece, Mere Christianity.

Christianity Today described this as " the most important and effective defense of the Christian faith in its century. [It is still rivaled] by no other apologetic, [and] it's worth taking a look at...."

Join us every first and third Saturday as we do just this.

Anatomy of a Disciple

Home groups begin the week of August 28-Sept 3.

You have a purpose in this life. Do you believe that? Do you live like it’s true? Walk together in your Home Group through this journey of The Anatomy of a Disciple. It will give you a clear, thorough picture of Jesus’ life and what it means to be His disciple. You'll learn how to live out the teachings of the Bible in a practical, relatable way.

This study will prepare us to heed Jesus command in Matt 28:18, "go and make disciples of all nations" as we begin the process of reaching out into the community around us.
