As we begin this time of preparation and watching for the Christ Child in this Advent season, we hope that you will make your worship life a priority in your weekly plans.  These are such great times in the life of our congregation.  So much is happening in our ministry life together.  December begins with plans for our Expanded Christmas Festival Choir to present the story of our Christmas Season in music at both worship hours on December 11th.  Then beginning at 4pm on the 11th we will share in our annual Christmas gathering as a congregation.  This year it will be a progressive dinner, with appetizers at the home of Jessica Whites parents, the main course and Santa sharing at dinner at the church, and dessert at the home of Jerry and Diane Cole.  We invite you to sign up to bring your favorite appetizer or dessert, and the main meal will be provided.  We are collecting canned goods that evening at the church for the Food and Clothes Closet.

Throughout the month we will be lighting the Advent wreath and hearing the messages of preparation and anticipation of the coming of Jesus.  On Christmas Eve we will have three services.  At 5:00pm we will have a family service with message and Christmas program being shared by the children of Spirit of Joy. At 7pm and 11pm we will have Candlelight Christmas services with special music, carols, instruments, and Christmas Message. Christmas Day and New Years Day are both on Sunday this year.  On both those Sundays we will have a single service of celebration at 10am.

Everyone is anxious to hear more about the building.  Yes, construction of our new facilities has begun with water lines installed, and grading of the property happening on a daily basis, in preparation for underground utilities going in.  Take time to drive into the property, and if not, each time you go by, say a prayer that all that we are doing is to the glory of God.  This time next year we are projected to be worshipping in our new facility.  Yes, truly great times, blessed times!

See you Sunday!
Blessings, Pastor Dan

Advent Resources
Child Lights Advent Candles

When our children were growing up, we celebrated Advent every Sunday evening as a family. We used a handy little guide we got at church that allowed each child to participate. Then we sang Christmas carols and concluded with a cup of hot chocolate or other snack.

When our children grew up, they resumed this tradition with our grandchildren. Because our guides were pretty ragged by this time, I created a new edition so they could print and use them as needed.

Take a look at this Advent celebration guide at SOJWeb. Print it and use it with your own children or grandchildren. Make this one of those cozy family traditions that they'll remember fondly for the rest of their lives.
