Welcome Luke Rios

We extend a hearty welcome to our new Director of Children's and Youth Ministries at Spirit of Joy.

Luke is currently enrolled at Point Loma Nazarene University and plans to graduate fall of 2018. His focus of study is Christian Ministries with a concentration in Leadership. He has a devoted passion for young people and a fire for God.

His purpose and mission is to have young people encounter Christ with a desire to obtain an authentic relationship with God. He has gained his experience of working with young people through different internships as a youth pastor and youth director positions.

Luke is a born and raised San Diego native, living his whole life in Eastlake. It wasn't until the age of 22 that he realized his calling was ministry.

Luke's love for God and people has been the ultimate factor in pursuing ministry. Alongside ministry he loves to interact with new people, workout, and explore new places.

Thanks for joining us, Luke. Welcome and Blessings.

Congratulations to our Graduates
David Hall, one of four student presenters June 4

On Sunday, June 4, we celebrated and honored children, youth and adults in our congregation who are being promoted and graduated.  High school graduating seniors David Hall, Emma Smith, and Megan McLaughlin, and middle school student Shannon Stemper read the scriptures and spoke about their Christian experience and future plans.

We'd like to give a special shout-out to David Hall for earning the prestigious California Lutheran University's Presidential 4-year Scholarship and Julie Vorce for earning Biola University's Provosot Academic 4-year Scholarship. We're exceptionally proud of all of our graduates.

We are in the process of preparing and posting videos of each student speaking on June 4. CLICK HERE to see what we have so far.

Congregational Picnic Fun
Picnic Pic 1

The congregational picnic on Sunday was well-attended where everyone feasted on great hamburgers & hot dogs (grilled by our dauntless Dougan Dimmitt) and plenty of yummy salads, fruit, and even more desserts. Thanks to Jessica White Barker (pictured) for organizing the picnic. And congratulations to Jessica and Steven on their marriage on May 28.

Following the meal we played a series of entertaining games and enjoyed renewing friendships and making new ones. The youngsters thoroughly enjoyed the well-appointed playground equipment at Ramona Oaks Park.

We'll have a slide show completed by next week.
