We have truly moved into these summer days, anticipating many of the activities and ministries that are ongoing at Spirit of Joy.  As your pastor, I cannot stress the importance of our worship life together.  As we move forward in building on the corner of Highland Valley and Highway 67, our commitment to the ministry of the church and this fellowship is so very critical.  We are building for the future for generations to come in this community.  To have a permanent building on land that we own has been a vision for years at Spirit of Joy.  Now that it is becoming a reality, it is even more important to look for the ways that we can volunteer, and be engaged in worship, activities, ministry, study, and community.  Our prayer is that though this may be summer, we will all take seriously our worship life, and our commitment to the church.

What is happening in these days of July and August?

  • On Tuesday we had our first Taco effort to invite youth and adults of the congregation to share in this gathering of our faith community.  We hope to expand this once a month Tuesday to include the entire community.  Inviting others to share in this time with us!
  • We begin our SUPER HERO VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL on Monday, July 10.  Children ages preschool through 6th grade are invited to share in a week of discovery, Bible learning, games, crafts, snacks, and recreation!  You can register online, or come on July 10th early and register then.
  • Once again Houseboats is the summer event for our High School youth and is planned for the week of August 7th.If you are in high school or just entering high school plan to register now to go on this week long event.

Other ministries are gearing up for late summer and early fall.  Look to hearing more about Home Groups and how you can join a group.  These groups are dedicated to devotion, fellowship, and food.  A great time to get to know others in your church family.

We are encouraging all junior high youth to meet with Luke and become part of the plans for this age group.  Confirmation is also being scheduled for all those in 7th and 8th grade, and older, who have not been confirmed.

So, lets all make that commitment to get involved, and build God's family of faith.

See you Sunday!

See you Sunday. Pastor Dan

Sharing Our Stories

Note: The article below appeared in the Pacifica Synod - ELCA News and Notes Newsletter for June. Let's all get behind this effort!

During Bishop Taylor's Synod Assembly report, he shared about a project led by Ellen Ray, a member of Spirit of Joy Lutheran in Ramona, who will be compiling tithing stories from those within our synod. Please see below for more information about how you can share your story.

Do you have stories about God's work in your life, specifically related to tithing and finances? Would you be willing to participate in a synod-wide project of sharing tithing testimonies?

The goal is to create a collection of stories of people's positive experiences of tithing and publish them as a devotional/inspirational book. A story of inspiration from you may encourage others to seek God's principles with their finances and resources, too.

An example: You tithe regularly, as part of your response to God's love in your life and your commitment to Him. You're out of work and out of disposable cash. A major appliance breaks down and you don't know how you're going to deal with it. Two days later, you receive the money in some unexpected form that enables you to replace/repair the appliance. God is good!

If you have a story you'd be willing to share, please let us know. Contact Ellen Ray (Spirit of Joy, Ramona) at 858-525-2334 or by email ( Thank you!
