Spirit of Joy is in for two very special musical treats
on the next two Sunday mornings.
Mission Vista High School March 18

This Sunday, March 18, we will host the Advanced Chorale from Mission Vista High School, a performing arts magnet school in Oceanside, CA under the direction of our own Bryce Harrison.

They will present a "mini concert" at both services which will include a variety of genres including multicultural, traditional spirituals, art songs, jazz, and American folk. This is a great opportunity to bring friends to hear these young singers, many of whom are headed to Lincoln Center in April to premiere a new work by world renown choral composer, Eric Whitacre.

Palm Sunday Cantata March 25

The Spirit of Joy expanded festival choir has been hard at work preparing for this years Easter Cantata, "The Lamb", composed by Jay Rouse. The work as a whole seeks to capture the Easter story in a way that it both reflective and exciting.

In addition to featuring our fantastic SOJ Choristers, the performance will also include bassist Mick Hall, percussionist David Chandroo, and Soprano Brook Benjamin. This work is truly not to be missed! I can't wait to share it with you all.

We Need your Pics

A big THANK YOU to Bryce for sending the pics above. Also, another big thank you to whomever sent me the goofy pic at the right. Which brings up an important need that I hope you will help me with: We Need your Pics.

For the past 12 years I have photographed many events in our life together at Spirit of Joy. Many of those photos have appeared on sojchurch.com and this eNewsletter, as well as a few in the Ramona Sentinel. These current, abundant photos make SOJChurch.com unique among church web sites.

However, with my increasing participation in ministry (Men's Bible Study, Home Groups ministry, Web Site, eNewsletter, and now financial officer) it is difficult to manage the job of being the church photographer.

But I know that more than enough photos are taken by you and other members of Spirit of Joy to meet this need. Therefore, I implore you to share selected pics with me so that I can include them in upcoming newsletters and Web site spots.

Because I usually crop most photos to emphasize faces of people, I need pics that are fairly high resolution (aproaching 4800x3200 pixels and 1.5 Megabytes in size...the larger the better). Most recent digital cameras and phones can produce these sizes, unless you have it set to save low-resolution pictures.

For example, Bryce's photo at the left (in reduced-size) was originally 3648x5421 pixels at 300 pixels per inch. I was able to crop the image and enlarge the people as you see at the top of this eNewsletter. Yes, the cathedrel is magnificent, but I wanted you to see the faces of the students who will perform on Sunday.

You probably take pics which include your own family or friends... please send them to me. If enough people do so, we'll compile an image history of our rich body life together. I want pics of anything you snap... baptisms, confirmations, performances, Sunday School, Bible Study, Home Groups, Bake Sales, Kids Klub, VBS, Retreats, meetings of all ages, work days, and more.

If you are an event planner/organizer, please appoint one or two people as "official event photogs."

Email your photos to me in batches of 1-3 at arogers@sojchurch.com. Or request a USB thumb drive from me on a Sunday... return it with your pics the following week. I attend Second Service, but Kay and I are almost always at church by the end of first service.

Thank you for your pics! They'll help us all recall our life together as members of Spirit of Joy's Body of Christ.
