Egg Hunt Success
Pastor Dan leading a prayer before the egg hunt

Hi Spirit of Joy family,

I want to send out a huge thank you to everyone who filled eggs, helped hide them, dressed up in costume, or otherwise helped out in the egg hunt this year. We cannot pull off these wonderful fellowship events without you. The egg hunt was April 27th, the day before Easter, and we had a great turnout on the land. The weather was perfect, and there were even lots of flowers popping up around the property.

We hid and hunted over 1400 eggs this year – so no one went home with an empty basket. We also passed out flyers for the Vacation Bible School coming up in July to a few families with young children. In all, it was a great time to be together and have some fun outside of our normal Sunday services. I love being able to mix with folks from both services, and it is really special to me personally to be out on the land and keep in mind our mission to build a new church.

On a side note – I am always looking for volunteers to help plan and execute fellowship events, so please feel free to contact me at fellowship@sojchurch.com if you are interested. This year is the 25th Anniversary of Spirit of Joy, so we are looking forward to having a special celebration in the fall, and I am in need of fresh ideas and hands to help out. I hope everyone is able to attend a couple events throughout the year, so that we can grow in our faith and friendship together.

Jessica Parker,
       Fellowship Task Force Leader

What Goes Around...

You can finish this: "...comes around."

We have any number of old aphorisms to pull out of this bag: "You reap what you sow", "Sow the wind, reap the whirlwind," "Karma."  Even Newton's third law of motion fits: "For every action there is an opposite equal reaction."

But did you know that this idea is also a SPIRITUAL LAW? It is the "LAW OF RECIPROCITY" and it is found throughout the New Testament:

Matthew 6:14-15: “14 For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, 15 but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses."

Matthew 7:1-2: “Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you.

Luke 6:36-42: Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful. “Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven; give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”

Matthew 7:12: So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

Galatians 6:7-10: Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.
