Building Update

Our diligent Building Committee has been hard at work sorting through a variety of construction alternatives that could meet our needs and slash our costs. After much research, they settled on building with shipping containers to closely match our design requirements as well as significantly reduce our total costs from our original estimates.

To illustrate, this magnificent church in Christchurch, New Zealand, is built around two rows of shipping containers. They provide sturdy sidewalls and roof support as well as meeting rooms, kitchen, offices, storage, and restrooms.

Shipping container construction has been around for several years, and a simple Google search displays many examples of beautiful shipping container homes.

On Sunday, June 2, Jim Barlow gave a Building Committee Report illustrating our current and future financial needs and plans. It also includes this simple diagram showing how a container-based design on our existing foundation footprints can match our design goals.

We are confident this plan will be economical, practical, and beautiful. The reduced cost, as well as the unique construction, will significantly improve our prospects of securing the funding needed to finish our building program.

Finally, we also expect that our new church building will attract interested and curious people to visit our ministry.   Can you feel a new burst of optimism arising?

We'll have additional sketches in the weeks to come.

Wrapping Up Our Bioswales

We must complete our bioswale and landscaping planting in order for the County to inspect and sign off the final tasks of our grading program. They will then refund our $30,000 grading bond.

Consequently, we are planning several church-wide DIY planting and landscaping workdays to complete these tasks.

So please join us to help plant our nine bioswales and place additional plants around the property. We especially encourage families to participate as an example to your children of church and community involvement in a great cause.

There's something magical about working with our church family and friends to build a better future. We hope you don't miss out.
