Volunteers are needed. Please bring your gloves, garden tools, brooms and energy, this Saturday, July 20th starting at 8am (beat-the heat). We'll appreciate any volunteers.

Christian Education at Spirit of Joy
by Bill Clark, Christian Education Task Force
Confirmation Class 2018

Like many Americans, I was captivated by the United States Women National Soccer Team’s journey to the championship of the World Cup.  Their demonstration of athleticism and teamwork was truly inspiring!

Since their outstanding performances on the soccer pitch, they have been involved in many celebrations and have given many interviews.  I was particularly touched by one of their star players, Megan Rapinoe’s words.  She said:  “We have to love more, hate less.  We’ve got to listen more and talk less.  We’ve got to know that this is everyone’s responsibility.  Every single person who is here.  Every single person who is not here.  Every single person who doesn’t want to be here.  Every single person who agrees and doesn’t agree, it’s our responsibility to make this world a better place.”

As a Christian, I believe that God wants us to “make the world a better place.”  But how do we know how God wants us to accomplish this noble goal?  In Matthew 28:  19-20, Jesus states:  “Go to the people of all nations and make them my disciples.  Baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and TEACH them to do everything I have told you.  I will be with you always, even until the end of the world.”

Home Groups

So how do we know what Jesus told his disciples so that we can teach others?  Self-study of the Bible can be a very powerful and effective way to learn about the example that Jesus set for us in his life.  In addition, group studies of God’s Word can provide us with the thoughts and perspectives of others which can help deepen our faith and understanding.  In Matthew 28: 20, Jesus states:  “Whenever two or three of you come together in my name, I am there with you.”  I know that I have learned a lot from others in the group studies in which I have participated.  In addition, by participating in SOJ group studies, we deepen our relationships with our fellow members and can therefore be more involved with helping each other when faced with difficult times!Like many Americans, I was captivated by the United States Women National Soccer Team’s journey to the championship of the World Cup.  Their demonstration of athleticism and teamwork was truly inspiring!

Sunday School, Kids Klub, VBS, Youth Program Leaders

At Spirit of Joy we have numerous Christian Education programs.  There are Youth groups, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, House Boat, and the Winter Retreat for our youth.  There are Bible Studies (including a separate Men and Women’s Study), and Home Groups for our adults.  I encourage each of you to prayerfully consider joining one or more of these groups.  I am confident that you will find the experience to be beneficial in your Christian education and may provide a roadmap as to how God wants you to live your particular life.  If we all learn more about how God wants us to live our lives, we can be confident in leading others to Christ and if we accomplish this, we will be serving God and truly “making this world a better place!”
