Message Moments

We have had a great summer so far at Spirit of Joy.  Vacation Bible School had its best attendance in several years, which is a timely reminder of how important it is that we invite others in our community. Let's continue to reach out with ministry and worship and continue inviting our friends and neighbors.

August is always a time for us to begin encouraging everyone to make that fall commitment to the church and church life.  From Kids Klub, Sunday School, Junior and Senior High Youth Ministry, Women and Men's Bible Study, Monday morning and evening Bible Study, Home Groups....and so much more. This all starts up the first full week in September.

This is also a time for you to reflect on your church life.  Involvement and commitment to your worship life, to Bible Study, to volunteer service is critical in making your journey of faith complete.  Let each of us evaluate our personal lives and ask Christ to be at the very center of all of our decisions.

Here is an update on our building process:  We are grateful for all that the congregation has done to complete the bio basins.  These were necessary for the grading permit sign off.  The inspection was this week and the county signed off on all items needing completion.  We now wait for additional growth in the bio basins so that the water protection agency can sign off too.  We are also moving forward on a project that will give us the extension we need for the building permit.  Please keep all of these efforts in your prayers.

We're looking forward to this fall's theme: Be, Belong, and Believe:

Spirit of Joy is a place for you and your family to
BE in the presence of the Lord,
BELONG to a place that welcomes al people and
BELIEVE in the love of Jesus Christ our Savior.
(Thank you to Patti Griffin)

So join us as we praise and worship our Lord every Sunday....yes, Be, Belong, and Believe!

Blessings, Pastor Dan

Home Groups Begin Week of September 8

We'll read and discuss the Gospel of Mark, which chronicles Jesus’ journey from Galilee to Jerusalem. Along the way, the Messiah gathers a ragged band of disciples. As crowds grow and dwindle on the road to Jerusalem, only a few stick by the Suffering Savior on the road of discipleship.

In this 11-part series on the Gospel of Mark, we'll walk with Francis Chan along the ancient ways of the Master. Tracing the steps of Jesus and the Twelve through Israel, Francis explores the major themes of the Gospel of Mark, and asks: Are we willing to take this journey to embrace discipleship?

Pastor Dan reports that Gerry Appleby is recovering nicely after his heart transplant last week. In fact, he was surprised when Gerry called him from the hospital the next day.  He sounded well.

On Sunday, Pastor Dan shared a photo of Gerry, sitting up and eating a robust meal. He was smiling and looking well indeed.

The NAME of the LORD is a Strong Tower: The righteous runs into it and is safe.

Jehovah Rapha is our Lord who Heals, and we praise his Holy Name for the work he has done in Jerry & Kathy's lives, as well as others among us who need his healing touch.
